Introduction

Search Maker Pro can properly index pages containing "Basic Latin" and "Latin-1" type characters. These characters form the basis of many languages.

Basic Latin ASCII characters such as A,B,c,d,1,2 are stored directly.
Latin-1 characters are converted to be stored in a common searchable format.

Languages

Languages using the supported characters include:

Danish
Dutch
English
Finnish
French
German
Irish
Italian
Norwegian
Portuguese
Spanish
Swedish

Other languages (such as Faeroese and Icelandic) encoded using these characters will be indexed correctly. Languages not using these characters may be indexed correctly.

Search Maker Pro does not contain support for Unicode 16 bit character sets or UTF-8 encoding.

Example

For example the character ñ can be expressed in HTML in any of these 4 ways:

Search Maker Pro converts each encoded character to it's "raw" format and stores the actual ASCII letter ñ in the index.

This means that search items will directly match the word in an index.

For example if a user enters niño in the search box then it will match niño in the indexes. Without the automatic conversion of the encoded character, the index would have contained niño and the match would have failed.

This list shows all variations of encoded letters in the latin-1 set that are supported directly by Search Maker Pro.

In addition international characters are also correctly encoded such as £, € and ¿
